![SMPA has been in ongoing talks with Seattle Parks and Recreation regarding the Outdoor Racquet Sports Strategy since its April 6 release.
SMPA submitted its "Racquet Sports Strategy Recommendations" to SPR today. We are asking for equitable access to public courts, SPR's decision-making data, and for SPR to keep up with the growth of Washington's state sport.

36 pickleball courts are slated for purge at Rainier Beach, Brighton, Magnolia, Gilman, Alki, Walt Hundley/High Point, and Soundview.
All attendees will get a chance to speak after a 20-minute presentation by SPR.

What city officials aren't telling you is the additional pickleball courts they say they are building in locations across the city won't be completed until 2 to 8 years from now, depending on funding. City officials haven't provided the public with the budget, the resurfacing schedule or an expansion plan. This data is only available through a Public Records Request. Demand transparency from city government.
If we don't stand together now, we risk losing 36 courts on June 22 with no transparent replacement plan.

How to Get Your Pickleball Plate
To get your Pickleball license plate, visit the Washington Department of Licensing’s State Sport: Pickleball License Plate page. You’ll find a step-by-step guide, pricing details, and how to complete your order. Two plate options are currently available.

Pickleball background with your choice of 7 characters, no “PB” prefix. (e.g. KITCHEN)

Seattle Metro Pickleball Association is a non-profit dedicated to supporting pickleball for all. Our mission is to build a thriving and welcoming pickleball community, expanding public access for generations to come.
Terms & Disclosure
Under the terms of the enacting legislation SB5444, SMPA is the sponsoring organization responsible for the management of the Pickleball State Sport License Plate program.
Funds from the Department of Licensing’s sale of Pickleball Specialty Plates will be used solely for construction and maintainance of dedicated pickleball courts across Washington State. More details on fund usage can be found here.
While SMPA is responsible for marketing, communication, and fund management, the organization does not receive any license plate proceeds.
